Rite of Passage

Well, it finally happened.  I've been waiting for it, knowing that it's just one of those "kid things" that's not a matter of "if," but "when."  A right of passage, you might say, raising little kids.   I was foolish enough to think for a while that I might actually avoid ONE of my babies doing this, but that was foolish, really.  I knew better.

So what am I talking about, you ask?  Poop in the tub during a bath, of course.  It's one of those things right along the lines of Falling down the stairs.  Or falling off the bed.  Or, I don't know . . . you fill in the blank.

Ironic, isn't it? That just the post previous to this (see below) I  posted a cute little picture of all 3 kids in the bath together.  I think I must have jinxed myself somehow.

Tonight, I sent Allison up to the bathroom to start her bath after dinner. (she CAN take showers, but likes to take baths still, especially when she can play without any other siblings in the tub with her.)  Anyway, Kimball heard the water running, and I guess took a bee-line straight to the tub.  He can climb into the tub if he wants to, and unfortunately, I wasn't there to stop him before he went in with ALL of his clothes -and shoes on- this time.   *groan*    Allison, of course, thought this was VERY funny, let it all happen, and THEN came to get me.  Luckily when I walked into the bathroom, I discovered that Allison hadn't closed the drain yet, so not TOO MUCH water was in the tub, but Kimball was still drenched nonetheless.  I quickly tried to get all of his WET clothes off and ripped off his diaper -- which was my downfall.  I failed to check to see if he had a messy diaper.  Well, you guessed it.  Poop came tumbling down into the water, and OF COURSE it was a semi-loose stool (sorry everyone) and so it just dispersed ALL OVER (the water was still running, which broke it up & spread it around very nicely.  And OF COURSE there were tons of toys in the bath which all got contaminated *grrrrr*

Why? Why!!!  Can't a women just send her 6 year old upstairs to take a bath, and make dinner downstairs for HERSELF without all the mayhem?!

And, can I just say, I HATE cleaning up after one of these incidents?  Worst of all, it was really all my fault.  It's not like he purposefully pooped during his own bath.  So that's even more annoying.

aggghhhh.  Like, I said, a RITE OF PASSAGE.

Introducing . . . .

. . . Kimball's new look!  These pictures were taken only an hour after I got his new glasses!  I'm surprised that he's keeping them on so well this soon.  So, I guess he notices enough improvement while wearing them to leave them alone  (for the most part, at least).   I think they might be a tiny bit big right now, but I think he'll grow into them really fast.

So what do you think??

By the way, you gotta love the last picture.  It's a classic example of  "like Father, like son" with his tongue hanging out like that.  I guess the story goes that when Matt was a small toddler, people used to fight about who got to sit behind his family at  church, because Matt was so entertaining with his tongue the whole time . . .

Little Entrepreneur

Last Saturday Allison asked if she could have a lemonade stand outside.  She'd already made the pitcher of lemonade . . . "all by herself," she said.  "Scary," I thought to myself, but "SURE!" is all I said.  "Why not?"  Secretly, I didn't think she'd sell anything, because she just sat in our driveway, not on a street corner where she' d be better seen.  And you always worry that they'll be disappointed when no one comes to buy their lemonade . . . ya know?

Well, she promptly set it all up and sat down.  Within a MINUTE, neighbor kids were outside buying her lemonade! I couldn't believe it!  After a little while, I went outside to check on her and saw that she was charging $1 for a small cup of lemonade!  And when I say small, I mean, she was using those colorful "kid cups" from IKEA.  I realized that her concept of money is not very developed and I should've guided her on this, but hey!  Kids were buying it! So I didn't say anything.  What I DID say was to be sure that each person got their OWN glass, and once it was used, to put in down on the driveway so it didn't get RE-USED.  (I had flashbacks from my own childhood lemonade stands, where we had ONE cup, and everyone drank from the same glass!!!  hee hee.  Oh, those were the days)

Well, a little while later, I went outside again to check on her and to my AMAZEMENT she had made 7 dollars!!!  By now her pitcher of lemonade was running low, so what did she do?  Add more powdered lemonade, of course.  Not more WATER, mind you.  Just more POWDER.  I had to smile when I went to put that pitcher in the dishwasher the other day.  Inside the bottom of of the pitcher was a THICK layer of crystalized lemonade powder mix.  I can only imagine how concentrated that lemonade must have been towards the end!

SO FUNNY!!

Lost tooth

Allison lost both of her top two front teeth within a week of each other.  Both times, the teeth came out during school.  (poor teacher -- Allison must think it pretty exciting to make it happen in front of her friends at school, I guess.)  Yesterday, she came home with blood ALL OVER her WHITE shirt she wore to school --- NICE.

Anyway, I had her line up for a good "mugshot" without her front 2 teeth.  It turned out pretty cute.  I usually have her say, "cheese" or "Daddy" to get her to relax and give a normal smile.

Well, Kimball was watching all of this, and so when we were done, he promptly ran up to the same spot on the wall as Allison and was ready for his picture to be taken too!  It was pretty cute.  So I told  him, say "Daddy," and he got this huge grin and yelled, "Daddy!!"  So here's his mugshot too . . .  I don't know what's going on with his hair, but he's a funny kid.

Sarah didn't get one, because she was too busy watching Enchanted on my iphone.

Good books

I've been in a "reading phase" lately.  I can't seem to get enough and I'm really enjoying it.  The two books I read last week are:

Lady of Milkweed Manor, by Julie Klassen. (Click here for the reviews on Amazon.com)

AND

Princess Academy by Shannon Hale.  (Click here for the reviews on Amazon.com)

I'm looking for some more GOOD books to read.  Ones that are so good, that you can't put down.  I'm scouring my friends' GOODREADS book lists for all of their 4 & 5 star reviews.

Have any you'd recommend?

100th post !

Well, this marks my 100th post, so I'm goin' to make it GOOD!  Brace  yourself: you're in for a special treat . . .  (reader beware, some of this might be a little TMI  -too much information)

First off, I think I'll start with this:

What is worse than swimsuit shopping?  Anyone, anyone?  Well, I have one for you . . . .
How about bra shopping at Target with 2 little kids?   I don't know about you, but that's waaaaaaaaay down there on "fun list" for me.  Especially after having breastfed 3 babies.  It's a sad, SAD state of affairs in the boob department around here.
                                                     **sorry readers, but you were
forewarned!** (I guess I should be embarrassed about writing this on my blog, but as one friend has recently put it, "air-brushing" (a blog) is tiresome.  And it's MY blog!!) Anyway, I've given up trying to buy expensive, fancy bras from someplace like Victoria's Secret, because I haven't found one yet that is actually comfortable to wear all day!  So, I'm giving Target a try                                                      -at least it's a cheap experiment.

Ok.  Here's another great tidbit . . .  Kimball's messes.  Here are some recent pictures of the messes I find Kimball in.  First one is applesauce -- it's caked on alllllll over in his hair. Nice. I made the mistake of leaving the kitchen for 2 minutes to switch the laundry, and this is what I came back to.  Notice the stunned look on his face when I caught him doing it.  The second is one is frosting-- this happened during a cookie decorating activity with Sarah's preschool friends.  He got a hold of someone's icing bowl.
And lastly, that's him with none other than a whole jar of thick, greasy Cetaphil lotion --all over himself. (and that stuff isn't cheap!!)  This incident really deserves its own post, but since I'm going all out for my 100th post, I'll just put all the pics in this one.  Notice the big CHUNKS of it on his head.  Ohhhh, this kid. How can one little person be so destructive and messy??!!! I must mention that this one happened on Daddy's watch, not mine.  But it goes without saying that neither of my girls EVER did stuff like this. But of course, they thought this was hilarious.

Lastly, I found a heavenly dessert that is so easy, you'll have to check it
out.  It's even "no-bake."  It's called  Almond Joy Dessert Bar Mix, by Betty Crocker.  I found it today at Target (before the bra shopping) and it was even on CLEARANCE!  (So I bought 3)  And yes, they are good. If you like Almond Joy candy bars, you'll like this.
